RAF Battle Of Britain 1940 Churchill's Speech Match Box Cover

Manufactured from tin, the cover carries RAF wings logo to the front and on the reverse an edited version of Churchill famous speech made to the House of Commons on August 20th 1940: "The gratitude of every home in our Island, in our Empire, and indeed throughout the world, except in the abodes of the guilty, goes out to the British airmen who, undaunted by odds, unwearied in their constant challenge and mortal danger, are turning the tide of the World War by their prowess and b~ their devotion. Never in the field of human conflict was so much owed by so many to so few. ''

These covers were first produced and sold in 1941 and this is an original period example, that came in with a box of assorted kit belonging to a WWII airman. The exterior finish shows some age related marks below the acetate, but generally in good original condition and would complement the RAF cigarette case, item 6825, we also have listed in this section.
