Steam Ship's Engine Room Salinity Jug
In tapered form and made from brass and fitted with a hardwood handle to provide insulation when in use. These were used to draw off water from steam ship boilers, so that the salinity of the water could be tested by use of a hydrometer. Unusual and decorative marine item from a bygone age with a definite art nouveau feel. Some service wear, but good original condition and now getting hard to find. Probably dating from the early 20th century Height 29 cm (11.5").
