grouping that relates to Commodore W.E. Smith DSO RD RNR of the Royal Mail Steam Packet Company. Included is Commodore Smith's visor cap with fine badge, his brass belt buckle, a badge and button. Commodore Smith had an illustrious career serving his apprenticeship on the clipper Cutty Sark and was on board in 1885 when she broke the speed record from Sydney to London. The lot includes original letters, newspaper cuttings, a copy of Smith's Master's Certificate and related ephemera.
