British Army Despatch Riders Gloves
A pair of WD issue gloves by D.Power & Sons Ltd. This pattern was also used by the women in the ATS Motorised Transport Section, for driving duties. Power & Sons Ltd operated out of their Long Street, Walsall factory. Walsall's gloving industry developed after the First World War, as a deliberate policy of diversification to combat the decline in the local saddlery and harness trade and they were the first specialist glove manufacturer in the town. This set are fully marked and as well as the makers details they are dated 1946 and carry the WD stamp, crows foot and the number 267. The marked size is 7 and we speculate this pair were ladies ATS drivers gloves. They are in excellent original condition and show just minor storage marks and appear to be unissued.
