Pre WWI Royal Artillery Dress Tunic
Whilst outside our normal area I could not resist buying this tunic having owned and worn an identical pattern back in the'Summer of Love' in 1967 when these things were both younger and less valuable than they are today! This example has a slightly worn paper label inside which describes the garment as a 'Royal Artillery Smock' and is dated March 1913. The size is indicated as waist 34" and breast at 39". The jacket is manufactured in a dark blue wool with a red collar and yellow piping. To the rear it has two brass belt hooks although the belt is absent. The cuffs bear gold cordage to match that used on the collar and epaulettes. The brass Royal Artillery buttons are made by Smith & Wright Ltd of Birmingham. Inside the jacket there is a small fabric cloth pocket sewn in. Overall the condition of this tunic is excellent despite its 105 years! It has very minor wear to one cuff and light wear to the collar lining but all in all excellent display condition.
